Holy Family Academy is especially dedicated to Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, the model of all families. The teachers and staff of Holy Family Academy, as an extension of the family at home, strive to follow the example of the Holy Family in all they do in the education of the children under their care.
The shield portrays strength as well as defense – in a time of ever-increasing peril for souls, students at Holy Family Academy are given a sound education, complete in its scope, with which they can both be an apostle and stand guard for their Faith.
The blue used in the body of the shield represents Our Blessed Mother and our hope for her maternal care. The yellow reflects the risen Christ, often depicted as radiant as the sun, and our faith that through His redemption we may attain salvation.
The symbols especially represent the Holy Family:
- The star hearkens back to Our Lady, who so beautifully used stars in the tilma of Juan Diego to show her Divine favor when she appeared as Our Lady of Guadalupe, and who is also honored by the title “Star of the Sea” in her litany.
- The staff of wheat symbolizes Our Lord Himself, who said, “I am the Bread of Life,” and who daily nourishes our souls with the wheat hosts, consecrated into His Body and Blood at Holy Mass.
- The fleur de lis is a stylized version of the lily, which traditionally represents purity in Catholic imagery. St. Joseph is often depicted in artwork as carrying a staff from which a lily has sprouted, showing his unwavering devotion and protection of Our Lady’s vows.
- The shapes dividing the symbols remind us of the tilled fields; the importance of labor, and the toil necessary for success in this life and the next.
- Finally, the rays at the top of the shield are a nod to the Arizona flag, and the bright sunlight which is a hallmark of the 48th state.
In addition to the Holy Family, we look to the example of St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron of Catholic schools. The “Angelic Doctor,” in his countless contributions to philosophical thought, provided teachings which were especially influential in the formation and re-creation of Catholic universities throughout the centuries.
By his fitting together of faith and reason, Aquinas’ intellectual approach can serve as an inspiration for educators, especially those at the high school level. It is with devotion to him as an intercessor and patron that we dedicate our motto: Fides et Ratio, or “Faith and Reason.”
It is our deepest wish that the students at Holy Family Academy emerge from the classroom each day having attained a stronger faith, and a further ability to be thoughtful.
Holy Family Academy chose the name of “Padres” because our goal is to promulgate the faith in our students and recognize the Alter Christus of the Catholic Church as the means to their salvations and pass on the repository of the Catholic Faith to our children.
As our Blessed Mother has prophetically declared* the devil has chosen as his final battle – attacks against marriage, the family and the priesthood. Through our sacrifices and commitment to our duty of state, the Padres of Holy Family Academy hope to obtain the graces necessary to assist the Priests and Religious of the Holy Catholic Church against the onslaught of the devil.
Holy Family Academy: Preparing Souls for the Great Fight of Salvation:
Excerpts from approved apparitions about our times from Our Lady of Good Success to Venerable Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres in Quito, Ecuador in the 17th century:
“The Sacrament of Holy Orders will be ridiculed, oppressed, and despised, for in this Sacrament, the Church of God and even God Himself is scorned and despised since He is represented in His priests. The Devil will try to persecute the ministers of the Lord in every possible way; he will labor with cruel and subtle astuteness to deviate them from the spirit of their vocation and will corrupt many of them. These depraved priests, who will scandalize the Christian people, will make the hatred of bad Catholics and the enemies of the Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church fall upon all priests.
“The Catholic spirit will rapidly decay; the precious light of Faith will gradually be extinguished until there will be an almost total and general corruption of customs. Added to this will be the effects of secular education, which will be one reason for the death of priestly and religious vocations.
“The sacrament of Matrimony, which symbolizes the union of Christ with the Church, will be thoroughly attacked and profaned. Freemasonry, then reigning, will implement iniquitous laws aimed at extinguishing this sacrament. They will make it easy for all to live in sin, thus multiplying the birth of illegitimate children without the Church’s blessing….
“In those times the atmosphere will be saturated with the spirit of impurity which, like a filthy sea, will engulf the streets and public places with incredible license.… Innocence will scarcely be found in children, or modesty in women.
“Unbridled passions will give way to a total corruption of customs because Satan will reign through the Masonic sects, targeting the children in particular to insure general corruption.
“He who should speak seasonably will remain silent.
“Sects, having permeated all social classes, will find ways of introducing themselves into the very heart of homes to corrupt the innocence of children. The children’s hearts will be dainty morsels to regale the devil.…
“Pray constantly, implore tirelessly, and weep bitter tears in the seclusion of your heart, beseeching the Eucharistic Heart of my most holy Son to take pity on His ministers and to end as soon as possible these unhappy times by sending to His Church the Prelate who shall restore the spirit of her priests.”
