Volleyball Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-State Team
Volleyball Coach Jon Graves passed along the following message, but did not mention that he himself was awarded “Coach of the Year” as well – Congratulations to Coach Graves and all our players!
Congratulations to two of our star players for being named CAA D-1 1st team All State, Emma Maneely (OH # 7) and Bella Graves (setter #2).
Bella is the only player on the all state team that is not a senior, she is a junior. Bella finished #1 in the State of Az and fifth nationally with 12.2 assists per set (game). In order to have the season and the attack numbers that we had, you have to have great hitters, and we do, six of them. You also have to have great play from the setter, as she runs the offense. Her nickname on the team is Lumiere, her job is to cater to her hitters. Bella recorded the best season in the state doing just that. Great season Bella, well deserved.
And the drum roll please !!!!! PLAYER OF THE YEAR …. Emma Maneely
The Padres claim our first POY recipient, Emma Maneely. This is a well earned designation. Emma is a unique player for her all around skill set. She has been a foundation for our team for the first three years and now has the hardware she deserves. Whatever the skill, Emma is either our best performer or second to a teammate. In the championship game, Emma hit .323 (2nd to Elllie), won 11 pts on her serve ( team best), had twelve digs (2nd to Maria), and had a 2.67 serve receive passer rating (led the team)..
Emma has been dominating the league for three years now, and has been largely overlooked by the league. That may be literally as she is 5 feet 4 1/4 inches tall. Her nickname on the team is the Honey Badger, because of the combination of her ferocity and her relatively small stature. They say the Honey Badger will take whatever she wants and in this case it is Player of the Year!! Congratulations Emma.
