Special Miraculous Medal Mass with Fr. John Nahrgang

On the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, Holy Family Academy was happy to welcome Fr. John Nahrgang, Diocese of Phoenix Vicar for Evangelization and Education.  In a special service, Fr. Alonso Saenz celebrated Mass while Fr. Nahrgang provided a sermon on the Miraculous Medal.

Fr. Nahrgang shared the story of how in 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared multiple times to Sister Catherine Laboure at the convent of the Daughters of Charity in Paris.  He discussed how the Virgin Mary told her to: “Have a medal struck upon this model.  Those who wear it indulgenced will receive great graces, especially if they wear it on the neck; abundant graces will be bestowed upon those who have confidence.”  First known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, it quickly acquired the name of Miraculous Medal due to many healings and conversions.

Fr. Nahrgang discussed how meaningful the Miraculous Medal has been to him and his desire to share the graces with students across the Diocese of Phoenix.  He and Fr. Saenz distributed the blessed Miraculous Medals to all HFA students, teachers and families in attendance.

This occasion also marked the first Mass conducted in the chapel after completion of the last phase of construction.  Extensive work was done over the Easter recess to construct wooden panels and a shelf above the altar.  A new crucifix, sanctuary lamp and lectern embellishment were installed and beautiful candle holders added to the altar.

As we reflect on the blessings Holy Family Academy has enjoyed over this year, we know that truly “With God all things are possible.”
